1. Lying an Abomination to
Leviticus 19:11 Do not
steal. “Do not deceive or cheat one another.
Proverbs 12:22 The
Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth.
Proverbs 24:28 Don’t
testify against your neighbors without cause; don’t lie about them.
2. Punishment Inflicted
Psalms 5:6 You will
destroy those who tell lies. The Lord detests murderers and
Proverbs 19:9 A false
witness will not go unpunished, and a liar will be destroyed.
Acts 5:3-5 Then Peter
said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy
Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. 4 The property
was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money
was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t
lying to us but to God!” 5 As soon as Ananias heard these words, he
fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified.

Psalms 119:63 I am a
friend to anyone who fears you—anyone who obeys your commandments.
Psalms 120:2 Rescue
me, O Lord, from liars and from all deceitful people.
Proverbs 13:5 The
godly hate lies; the wicked cause shame and disgrace.
4. Two Classes Contrasted
Truthful words stand the test of time, but lies are soon exposed.
Proverbs 14:5 An
honest witness does not lie; a false witness breathes lies.
Proverbs 14:25 A
truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is a traitor.
5. Characteristic of the
John 8:44 For you are
the children of your father the devil, and you
love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He
has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it
is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.
