Sunday December 28, 2008 - Jerry opened the morning service
with a short message entitled; “What is the Gospel” using 1 Corinthians 15.1-4
as his text. Ben Carter led us in praise and worship as only Ben can
do. While he was playing the piano and imploring God, not him, to bless
those in attendance, he began asking the Holy Spirit to rain down on us. After
a few bars of that request, repeated over and over, we began to hear rain drops
hitting the metal roof of the chapel and their intensity increased as Ben
continued to sing. One of those times you had to be there to truly
experience the awesomeness of the moment.
George leader brought the morning’s message. His
subject was “Be Prepared” and his text was taken from Matthew 25; the story of
the 10 virgins, 5 prepared for the bridegroom and 5 not prepared. He told
of his daughter telling him that she no longer believed the way he did and how
he responded to her. It was a message full of evolution versus
creationism, feelings and facts, faith and unbelief, experience with God and
without Him. You could sense the earnest of his tone, like each of the
boys was his daughter and he had to, that very hour, convince them to believe
the Gospel Jerry defined for us in the opening.
Ken Moreland closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
