2009-01-18 Rick - Cloud of Witnesses

Sunday Jan 18, 2009 – Lyndee open the worship service encouraging the audience to be present for the Friday evening bible study where they will be studying "Jesus as a Child."  She posed questions to the audience and they responded with quick answers regarding how our Savior grew in wisdom and stature and made the hard choices. She ended with Psalms 27:10 Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close which surely spoke to the heart of many in her audience.

Pam began the praise and worship part of the service with "I am not Forgotten" encouraging the boys to believe what they were singing.  Then we had a special treat; 6 young men singing "He Knows My Name".  I do not know if they had rehearsed or were singing together for the first time but I do know they were first-class.  Pegasus now has its own barbershop quartet or maybe I should say sextet!
Pam began to share her week; an awesome testimony about her struggles with doing it herself or just letting go and trusting God to do it.  (We all could relate to that struggle!)

With her husband in Nashville and Pam feeling trapped in Lockhart, waiting for their house to sell in a down real estate market, she needed answers and it seems our precious Heavenly Father came through.  Lyndee advised her to do what it took to be re-united with her husband.  Another brother in the Lord gave her a financial gift and a "Word in Season"; Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you;  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.   Pam stepped out on faith and will be leaving Lockhart to join her husband on the 2nd of February.  She closed with "Here I Am to Worship".

Ben blessed us with a medley of four worship songs; "It's all about You", "We've Come to Worship", "I Came to Worship You" and "We Glorify Your Name'.  I say four songs but I am not sure; Ben moves from one song to the other so smoothly that it seems like they are the same song and then I get caught up in the worship and have a difficult time making notes.

Before our main speaker, C.J., the Lockhart Pegasus Ministry leader, shared from a hurting heart for the continual stream of young boys coming to Pegasus asking; "Will they stop coming?" while knowing the answer is "no"!  It is never going to stop and probably get worse.  As he spoke he looked into the faces of the boys pleading with them to "let God love you this morning.  The reason we are here, the reason Pegasus is here is you.  It is all about you.  We love you, but time is running out and God is calling out to each of you.  It is your choice."

Rick, our main speaker, painted a picture of a stadium filled to capacity with a "cloud of witnesses", (Hebrews 12:1).  He asked the boys to imagine they were running on a track inside that stadium and running along side them was King David dressed in royal attire encouraging them to overcome the limitations others have put upon them.  His text was from 1 Samuel 16, the story of David and Goliath and the prophet Samuel anointing David as the king to replace Saul.  He showed how David's father, Jesse, had put limitations on his son David by asking Samuel to pick one of David's seven brothers to be king,  How his brothers had put limitations on David when it came to fighting the giant, Goliath, and how King Saul put limitations on David by insisting he wear armor to do  battle with Goliath.  Lastly how Goliath himself laughed and made fun of David, once again putting his limitations on David.  Father, brothers, king and giant put limitations on David, but he overcame each one and in the end became "a man after God's own heart".

Rick's summation to the boys encompassed three truths:

1.      Limitations do not limit us unless we let them.

2.      Don't try to be someone else when other's put limitations on you. Be you. You were made for a purpose.

3.      Rise above your limitations and you can help others do the same.  If David can do it, you can do it and if you can do it your friends can do it …. So do it!!!

The service was closed by honoring five young men who have successfully completed the Pegasus program.  There names are; Alex, Henry, John, Jose and Delton.  These names will be placed on   prayer list page honor roll.
