2009-06-21 John - Spiritual Warfare

Sunday June 21, 2009 – Today was “Father’s Day” and Rick opened the morning service talking about our eternal heavenly Father.  Just like your earthly father would give you instruction your heavenly Father provides that through his Word, the bible, and then it is our choice to accept or reject.  Let us make this “Father’s Day” our “Heavenly Father’s Day” by coming to him in praise and worship.

Ricked closed by telling the boys about all the names Satan is called in the bible; Lucifer, Satan, Liar, Murderer, Enemy, Prince of this World, The Evil One, The Destroyer, The Dragon, The Accuser, The Serpent, and the Devil.  Jesus told us how to resist this devil when he taught his disciples “The Lord’s Prayer” where we ask our heavenly Father to deliver us from evil.  It is your choice, our heavenly Father’s way or the way of the evil one, God’s way or the destroyer’s way, the way of truth or the way of the Liar, the way of life or the way of the murderer, the way of a friend or the way of the enemy!

Rick closed praying to our heavenly Father.

Ben ministered to the boys in music and the Word.  He sang “Can’t Stop Praising his Name”, “All Power and Glory to Him”,” It is all About You, Jesus”, and “Prepare me to be a Sanctuary” interjecting between each song words of holy instruction and encouragement.  Although it was Ben who sang and talked his whole audience worshiped the Lord in a precious unity.

Our speaker for the morning was John Herrera.  His subject was “Spiritual Warfare” and his text was Ephesians 6:10-18:

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

He spoke of the seven year anniversary of his son’s death and how sad it made him until alone in his hotel room, the Holy Spirit gave him this precious word; Ephesians 6:10-18.  He asked the boys to keep reading the Word even though they may struggle to understand it.  Don’t give up, be strong in the Lord and his word.

He talked about honoring our parents even though at times you may think they do not deserve it.  He asked them to give all of their hurt to God and make it their purpose in life to live by his rules.  Do not concentrate on the things of this world but concentrate on pleasing God and He will supply all your needs.  Do right by God and He will do right by you.  Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might.

Ken closed leading the boys in the “Lord’s Prayer”.
