2009-08-30 Luis - Honoring God

Sunday, August 30, 2009 – Everyone was in good spirits and wanted to praise the Lord so Lyndee opened the service with singing; “He will lift you up”, and “I lift your name on high”.

Rick spoke about the Friday evening Bible Study where the subject was the results of disobeying God and the only way to get re-united with Him was Jesus Christ.  Rick introduced his two sisters who were in town to celebrate their father’s 90th birthday.   He closed with prayer.

Lyndee continued the singing with; “I lift your name on high” and then invited two Pegasus residents to read from the scripture:

1 After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. 3 I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you—

6 “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. 7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. 8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:1-3 and 6-9 (New Living Translation)

8 We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. 9 We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (New Living Translation)

The singing continued with; “He will lift you up”, “My Jesus, My Savior” and “Amazing Grace”.

Our morning speaker was Luis Amaya whose subject was “Honoring God”.  You honor someone by respecting them and believing what they say.

6 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies says to the priests: “A son honors his father, and a servant respects his master. If I am your father and master, where are the honor and respect I deserve? You have shown contempt for my name!    “But you ask, ‘How have we ever shown contempt for your name?’ Malachi 1:6 (New Living Translation)

He spoke of how honored he was to be able to speak to them.  Oh how he felt such deep emotions as he listened to the boys praising the Lord in song and realize if it were not for Jesus Christ all of this would not be happening.

God desires are praise and heart felt worship not just on Sunday but everyday:

1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. .  Romans 12:1 (New Living Translation)

God wants us to honor him by renewing our minds and hearts, by changing the way we think and speak, by removing from our lives those worldly ways which rob us of knowing God’s perfect will.

He talked of his work with prisoners who listened to him but refused to change their minds and walk in a different direction.  Luis gave personal testimony of how God gave him the courage to teach His word.

Do not be afraid; do not be ashamed to honor God.  He will give you the strength and boldness to honor him.  Live in a manner that is beneficial to your divine call.  Make an effort by being honest and truthful in all you do.

15 It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. 1 Peter 2:15 (New Living Translation)

Trust God, believe His Word and keep praising Him!

Ken closed encouraging the boys to be joyful, pray without ceasing and be thankful in all circumstances.
