09-13-09 Ken - Sin

Sunday, Sept. 13 2009 – Rick open with Luke 6:43:

“A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 44 A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thornbushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes. 45 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

You are what you have stored up in your heart.  Fill it with lust, envy, jealousy and like sins and that is what will come out of your mouth when you speak.  Fill it with good things and when you talk it will bless the one who is listening.

Lyndee had the boys read scripture:

6 “I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you, 8 for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.

9 “My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. 10 All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory. 11 Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are. 12 During my time here, I protected them by the power of the name you gave me.  I guarded them so that not one was lost, except the one headed for destruction, as the Scriptures foretold.

13 “Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy. 14 I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 15 I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. 16 They do not belong to this world any more than I do. 17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. John 17:6-17 (New Living Translation)

She led the boys in singing “Here I am to Worship”,  “The Earth is filled with your Glory”, “Amazing Grace” and take me home.

Before Ken brought the morning message he asked Ben to sing “He Touched Me”.  He spoke on the subject of lying and use the book of Judges as his text.  350 years of the history of the Hebrew nation under judges appointed by God.  Almost every generation the nation fell into sin over and over again.  It is hard to be good and easy to do evil.

50 Years - Judges 2:11 The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight and served the images of Baal.

100 Years - Judges 3:7  (Othniel Becomes Israel’s Judge)  The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight. They forgot about the Lord their God, and they served the images of Baal and the Asherah poles.

150 Years - Judges 3:12 (Ehud Becomes Israel’s Judge)  Once again the Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight, and the Lord gave King Eglon of Moab control over Israel because of their evil.

200 Years - Judges 4:1 (Deborah Becomes Israel’s Judge) After Ehud’s death, the Israelites again did evil in the Lord’s sight.

250 Years - Judges 6:1 (Gideon Becomes Israel’s Judge) The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight. So the Lord handed them over to the Midianites for seven years.

300 Years - Judges 10:6  Again the Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight. They served the images of Baal and Ashtoreth, and the gods of Aram, Sidon, Moab, Ammon, and Philistia. They abandoned the Lord and no longer served him at all.

350 Years - Judges 13:1 (Samson)  Again the Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight, so the Lord handed them over to the Philistines, who oppressed them for forty years.

Judges 21:25   In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.

He spoke of why we are prone to do evil and how it seems that all evil starts with a lie.

44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44 (New Living Translation)

Proverbs 12:22 The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth.

Psalms 5:6 You will destroy those who tell lies. The Lord detests murderers and deceivers.

Ken ended encouraging the boys to make a pledge that they would never lie again.

At closing the boys recited The Lord’s Prayer”.
