2010-02-14 CJ - Forgiveness

Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010 – Rick talked about Faith, our hope in Christ Jesus.  He spoke of where it comes from; Romans 10:17, faith comes from hearing the message and that message is the bible. Why is faith important; Heb. 11:6; “Without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and is the rewarder of those who seek Him.”

He spoke of the value of faith using 1 Peter 1:3-7 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4. and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, 5. who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

He closed asking the boys to think about what faith really is.  Study it for yourself and then put it into action for yourself.

Cindy led the boys in worship through music with “Blessed Be Your Name”, “King of Glory”, “He Knows My Name”, “Friend of God” and “My Redeemer Lives”.

We honored one young man, Miguel, who has successfully completed the Pegasus program.  Ken came forward and blessed Miguel in prayer.

Our morning speaker was C.J. Solis whose subject was forgiveness.  His text was Proverbs 24:16 “for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity.”   He asks his audience if they had asked God to forgive them for what they have done, had they asked their parents to forgive them, had they asked their victims to forgive them.  Almost every boy lifted his hand.

He continued by showing the relationship between how many times our parents forgive us and how many times God forgives us.  And in reverse how many times we forgive those who have wronged us.  God wants us to understand that no matter how many times we fail God’s forgiveness is available.  He is quick to forgive.

He spoke of how our Savior existed in a human body just like ours with all its frailties.  He encountered the same temptations that we encounter and because of that He understands our need for forgiveness.   He paid the ultimate price to pay for that forgiveness.   Even though others may look down on us, God does not.  He is full of mercy and forgiveness, ready and waiting to fill you with his mercy and love.

It is sad that some of you do not care; willing to take a pass on all that God would do for you.  You can fall; it is okay that you are not perfect.  You do not have to cover it up.  He knows what is going on in your heart.  If through it all you have a passion for God He will provide forgiveness and victory.

CJ closed reminding the boys that the reason they were at Pegasus was because or their bad choices.  He asked them to make a good choice today; to accept God’s forgiveness and begin living to please Him.

Ken closed the service with some Valentine humor and reciting the 23rd Psalm.
